The Battle of Lexington and Concord by: Allison Jankowitz
The Battle of Lexington and Concord where the first two battles of the Revolutionary War. It began in April 18th,1775. The Americans were led by [[http://Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith|Colonel Gage]]. The British were led by Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith. The British had gone to Concord to capture John Hancock and Samuel Adams. Paul Revererode through towns to warn people that the British were coming. When Paul Revere warned everyone about the British coming, the minutemen (normal men that were supposed to be ready to fight within minutes) had gotten their guns and were ready to fight in Lexington. At dawn Smith's advanced parties under the command of Major Pitcairn, arrived at Lexington Green to see a group of armed Militia. That night there were eight minutemen killed and ten wounded. "Don't fire unless fired upon. But if they want a war let it begin heres," said Captain John Parker, commander of the Minutemen. To this day, no one knows who shot the first shot. After the battle, the British found out that Hancock and Adams had managed to escape the town.

Then the British marched toward Concord in search of ammunition. They spreaded out to destroy some cannons believed to be at Provincial Colonel Barrett's farm. When they got close, there was a fight between the minutemen and the British. This fight had made the British retreat. They were stuck in the middle of Concord, so they retreated all the way back to Boston. The problem was that the militia were ready for that so they surrounded the entire city of Concord. Because the way that Americans fought differently from the British, they scared the British. So then the British left Concord.
